Sign up for support for yourself or a family you are working with

Whether you want to ask for support yourself, or want to help a family you support as a professional. Home Start West Somerset offers a quick and easy way to sign up to receive support. We offer support in a variety of formats including – weekly visits from our trained home visiting volunteers, weekly phone support from our telephone Be-Frienders and support groups run by staff and volunteers.

If you feel your family would benefit from the informal, confidential support of a trained Home-Start volunteer you should check you meet the criteria below:

  • Have at least one child under 7 years old
  • You live within West Somerset

If so please complete the form below and a coordinator will be in touch with further details of support


If a family you are currently working with would benefit from Home-Start support, follow the steps below:

  • Discuss Home-Start with the family – they must agree to receive Home-Start support
  • Establish that the family has at least one child under seven and lives within West Somerset
  • Complete the “I want support for a family I support as a professional” form below

Home-Start West Somerset will then:

  • Contact you to discuss the family further
  • Arrange a first visit to meet the family and discuss their needs
  • Carefully match the skills and experiences of a volunteer to the needs of the family
  • Introduce the volunteer to the family (this may take time and if a suitable match cannot be made then you will be informed)
  • Let you know when Home-Start support starts and ends
  • Keep you informed about progress (within confidentiality guidelines)
