A charity set up in 2002 to provide West Somerset families with a helping hand and a listening ear has celebrated its 20th birthday.
Home-Start West Somerset’s initiative 20 years ago was to match volunteers with families that are experiencing challenging times offering the families friendship, practical help, and emotional support, in its first year Home-Start supported 9 families with a total of 21 children, over the last 20 years Home-Start has developed hugely to meet the community’s needs by continuing to provide volunteer lead support in the family home plus several other initiatives including; Bump-Start, Baby-Start, Story Start, and School Start, and in the last year of 2022 has supported in total 326 families!
To celebrate this wonderful birthday Home-Start has put on numerous events throughout the year and on September 16th held a birthday party for 40 families, manager Clare Pound who has been with the charity for 8 years remarked
‘It was such a special day, not only because it was lovely to see all the families enjoying themselves but also to get together with some of the original people that set up the charity 20 years ago, Home-Start is such a successful organisation and continues to achieve its mission and grow to meet the family’s needs.

Continuing its birthday celebrations Home-Start is also holding a family variety night on Saturday 1st October at the Minehead Regal Theatre, for which tickets are available.
